Pituitary hormone: Acth comes from the pituitary and regulates adrenal cortisol. It is measured in an immunoassay. Acth is a small peptide, broken down quickly in plasma, and is tricky to assay; results can be unreliable if the sample is not processed properly. It is measured in the work up of adrenal and/or pituitary disorders, such as cushing's disease or pituitary deficiency.
