Not common...: .. But a potential post operative problem. Follow the directions of your oral surgeon and you will minimize the chances of developing a dry socket.

Always a possiblity: Dry socket occurs more often in the lower jaw and mostly with smokers. If you follow all the surgeons post op instructions properly you will have the best chance of avoiding a dry socket but it is not a guarantee. The good news is that if you do get it then it will eventually heal.
