About 5-8%: About 5-8% of the time based on studies. Females on hormone therapy (bcps) or menstruating have a higher incidence (approaching the 8%). The higher rate is thought to be because of clot breakdown from hormone fluctuations although this is not proven. Follthe instructions and the risk is minimal. If it occurs it is easily taken care of.
