Not necessarily: It wouldn't hurt to undergo testing of immune function, but some infectious entities, like epstein barr virus, the cause of infectious mono, never leave your body once you have them. This herpes virus may produce recurrences and reinfections (difficult to differentiate). It also has the capacity to cause or predispose to certain malignancies. We don't fully know why some are more susceptible.
