A member asked:

Is it possible to have mono with a normal cbc and normal number of lymphocytes? my monospot test is negative but i have symptoms.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: The label "Mononucleosis" was minted back before we had expanded testing abilities to find the germ or antibodies that turn the mono test positive. Its label came from the high level of monocytes (cousin of lymphocytes) found on a CBC. There are lots of medical & emotional conditions that can cause symptoms which overlap with that of mono.
