I had a ct for my abdomen ache. a 5 mm calculus was found in the lower pole calyx of my right kidney. the doctor says i should get a lithotripsy done- doing cystoscopy in a few days. i have to travel europe in few weeks. second opinion?

Not enough info.: Stones like that can sit around for years without doing anything. It more depends on whether you have pain, bleeding, infection, or other symptoms and signs of an ongoing problem. A "stomach ache" is much too vague to hang anything on and could be caused by almost anything.

Follow advice: Cannot see this would alter your travel plans. Should recover from both procedures within a few days. My advice, however, would be to obtain a prescription and take medication for pain relief with you to europe should you have a recurrence. You may not be able to get narcotics in europe as an out-patient. Also, try and determine cause of the stones. Sure you do not have hyperparathyroidism?

Kidney stone: A 5mm stone in a lower pole calyx is hardly an urgent matter. These stones rarely cause symptoms. Cystoscopy is likely being done for an unrelated issue. (hematuria?). Still, eswl is the preferred treatment for renal stones in a non-obstructing position.
