Possibly flat feet: Some people with flat feet develop a muscle imbalance that results in the 5th toe rotating. The fact that the toe rotates isn't an issue but might suggest the need for treating the underlying foot condition. For the toe crunching, i would recommend trying to wear shoes that are wider by the toes. It's not uncommon for women to develop hammer toes due to years of wearing high heeled shoes.

It could be fixed: Very common pedal abnormality in dancers. Surgery is usually the only way of fixing this problem . However, if you do not want to have surgery then wider shoes should help. See a podiatrist for evaluation and further treatment options.

5th toe varus: A varus 5th toe may become painful if you begin to develop corns over the joint. It may develop from having a flat foot or other gait abnormality. The best shoes to wear are good running shoes and high heels should be saved for special occasions. The most complications arise from very flat shoes like flip flops, Ugg Boots, flat ballet slippers, and even bare feet.
