Less likely: This sounds more like a bacterial infection rather than athetles foot. This one should be seen by a doctor to check and ensure the best treatment and diagnosis. Good luck

Make sure.: Infections aren't the only conditions that can bring on those symptoms. You might consider fracture, stress or other wise, of the 5th metatarsal, of little toe.

This does not sound: like athlete's foot. Athlete's foot is a fungal infection, which causes a red, itchy and possibly slightly painful rash, but does not cause the kind of pain and swelling you are describing. Please see your doctor to get properly evaluated and treated.
