Is there an alternative that we can use for reflux without having to purchase prescriptions?

"Life-style changes": These include eating a low fat, caffeine-free diet, avoiding alcohol, coffee, and aspirin, remaining upright for at least 3 hours after finishing each meal, and elevating the head of the bed on 4- to 6-inch blocks. Using extra pillows or a short wedge is usually not helpful. If you are overweight, then weight reduction to a normal BMI (20-25) is also helpful.

Lifestyle measures.: Yes. Smaller more frequent meals. Elevate head of bed from the floor. Don't eat within four hours of going to bed. Limit citrus fruits, chocolate, caffeine, tomato products, smoking and peppermint. Lose weight if you're overweight. That being said, there are many over-the-counter medications available now for reflux.
