Maybe: Adhd has a very strong hereditary component. That means that in most cases it tends to run in families. However, in some cases adhd can be the result of injuries to an infant during pregnancy as a result of the use of alcohol or tobacco by the pregnant mother.

No: The real underlying causes of add/adhd symptoms may be hereditary such as allergies, thyroid problems and even low blood sugar.

Not single disorder: Adhd can have a variety of causes. Heredity is well established as one factor, with a strong tendency for it to run in males. However, genetics is only one factor. Fetal exposure to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco al increase risk of adhd later in life.

Probably: Most add/adhd is highly hereditary. The are a small percentage of cases that are caused by toxins, pre-natal drug use, etc. The evidence thus far is quite strong for a hereditary pattern, and there is promising research about the mode of transmission.
