Could be: Tannic acid is an astringent that will help stop oral bleeding. An ingredient of tea, it can be helpful on occasion to bite on a teabag after an extraction to stop minor residual bleeding. Once the benefits of scaling are achieved, the bleeding and need for an astringent should disappear.

Won't hurt: Tannic acid is used to control bleeding. There is tannic acid in tea. Some eastern medicine believe green tea is antibacterial. Plus antioxidants. At worst you may get a little staining.
