Many factors : There are many different causes of tmd (temperomandibular disorder) with varying levels of pain/symptoms. Therefore, there are different modes of treatment and varying levels of success. Having said that, splint therapy is typically a first line treatment recommendation and then go from there. A diet with softer foods, anti-inflammatory medication, and intraoral massage are also used often.

Many possibilities : Many possibilities, really hard to say without knowing/seeing more. You possibly could have a nutritional deficiency. You possibly could be a mouth breather, particularly at night. This dries your mouth/tongue and results in a red and cracked tongue. It would be best to consult with your dentist.
