Doctor decides: Only your orthodontist will be able to tell you this. I presume that the possibility of surgery following ortho treatment was discussed and should not come as a surprise to you. Again, the dentist that put on your braces will tell you of your progress. If you think you have been in braces for way too long (4 years) then you may want to get another opinion about your treatment.

Unknown: This is a question that ultimately can only be answered by your orthodontic specialist. The removal of braces and "surgery" seem mutually exclusive, but good communication with your orthodontist is key.

Service: Orthodontic treatment is a service, not a commodity like Campbell's Soup. Malocclusions are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. Ask your Orthodontic Specialist or treating General Dentist for an overview of your treatment, anticipated completion time, and necessity for surgery.
