Depends on the issue: There are often multiple ways to address specific dental concerns.The philosophy of the dentist coupled with the goals of the patient may lead in many treatment directions. My thinking is that if there is an orthodontic malocclusion, the best solution involves treating the problem orthodontically but that often isn't the only possible approach. Get a clear understanding of all options b4 treatment.

Depends: Short answer, yes. But more accurately, it depends on what you are looking to achieve. Lots to consider-- cost, longevity of solution, time in treatment. I would discuss with both an orthodontist and a cosmetic dentist and weigh the pros and cons of what you are considering.

Often need both: If teeth are not properly aligned, surgically "straightening" the crown over a crooked root may destabilize the teeth or make them more prone to gum/bone loss. Often the best solution is to Orthodontically create the best platform on which to do restorative treatment. This makes the restorations easier to perform, less complex, more long-lasting, and less expensive. Consult w both.
