Ice, position, nsaid: It is best to stay off of a swollen foot. Bearing weight will make it worse. Try to raise the foot at or higher than the level of the heart. Use intermittent icing and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

Many possibilities: R.I.C.E. Rest, ice, compression, elevation. Immobilization with a splint or brace may be of benefit in the initial phase of recovery. Oral anti-inflammatory medication may help with the pain and swelling.
