Chronic ankle sprain: Many ligaments and tendons are involved in ankle sprain taking 4-6 weeks to heal at optimal conditions, bone also. Swelling is result of inflammation. Even if just ligaments involved, they may never be 100% normal especially if still weightbearing. May be adding to injury if ankle is not stable enough. Try elastic/air cast splinting/ lace-up or neoprene velcro bracing to support weak joints.
