Possibly weeks: Tmd exacerbations can last weeks depending on the problem. Nsaid's usually help if used on a regular basis for the inflammation. If there is disc displacement, soft diet , muscle relaxants, or splints can be used. If no relief then surgical procedures maybe necessary. Se a board certified oral surgeon for a consult.

72 hrs: As with most inflammatory transient reactions. The zenith of inflammation is about 72 hrs, after that it should resolve rather quickly.

Agitated, dislocated: Was it agitated or dislocated? Are you able to get your back teeth to touch when you close or chew? I have seen these types of injuries last much longer, but if it is just sore, it should be back close to normal within 7 to 10 days.

Depends: Depends on what was done to the jaw, for how long and is there any previous history of tmj. More information is required. However usually after 1 week the jaw should be fine. If not consult your doctor.

Depends: Usually not long. Sometimes the "agitation" is permanent. See TMJ expert for advice. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
