Talus fracture: If your orthopaedic surgeon is recommending operative treatment of your talus 5 weeks after surgery it is likely that it may be displaced and require realignment. A displaced talus fracture that is not treated will likely result in pain, disability, and progression to arthritis. At 5 weeks after injury it may be difficult to properly align the talus but it can be done.

One thing: About injuries to the talus is a high risk of avascular necrosis of the talus. For this reason, one of the safest procedures to perform after a fractured body of the talus is a triple arthrodesis, where the talus is fused to the calcaneus and navicular bones, so it can get a blood supply from these other bones.
