Likely yes: Most likely yes. You are very young so if you already have nafld and elevated cholesterol, you need to protect your liver from further damage. Change your diet, take a statin or other lipid-lowering agent, normalize your blood pressure, and exercise. Discuss with your doctor about starting a statin.

LDL, not Cholesterol: It have been known, for over 7 decades, that artery disease typically begins ~age 7, yet remains asymptomatic for decades; artery walls thicken & enlarge, not narrow. Events, including stenosis (narrowing), result from plaque rupture & clots. Optimize NMR particle test (hdl & LDL concentration, not cholesterol), keep hba1c low, optional ≤5.0%, sbp ≤120 mmhg, don’t smoke, exercise, avoid sugar, etc.

Rx NAFLD: Studies which indicate a benefit from a high fish diet, if you are not allergic. I would suggest that you have Hepatitis vaccinations, a healthy diet and weight reduction. In addition, there is an herbal non regulated therapy described in the literature of 4 to 5 grams per day of blue green algae which has been shown to decrease liver inflammation. I would suggest not taking without M.D. approval

Need more info but..: Not everyone with high cholesterol needs statins; it depends on how high and esp. on the subtypes of cholesterol. Statins can be toxic to the liver. See http://tinyurl.com/9x3n594 and http://tinyurl.com/2f9kg7d There are other ways to lower cholesterol: http://tinyurl.com/4o6n7e2 For good info on treating NAFLD see http://tinyurl.com/lf77ull
