Yes, you're right: The numbers you submit add up to a total cholesterol of about 250 mg/dl, not 200. But usually our treatment decisions are based on LDL anyway. If, on another measurement, your LDL was 127, what we would expect with a total cholesterol of 200, lifestyle, i.e. diet and exercise, should be sufficient. However, if you have significant heart disease risk, LDL goal is <100 and meds may be needed.
