Why is there a wait time between applying for dental insurance and receiving it?

Insurance Wait Time: All health and dental insurance specify a wait time. Otherwise, why would anyone sign up in advance? We would all buy the insurance one day before the treatment, then quit right after the treatment. Please understand insurance companies are in business to make money. This would not happen without wait times.

Not always true: Depending on the insurance company and how you purchase this (individually or through employer) there may or may not be a wait time. It is totally dependent on how the insurance or plan is written. Consult your insurance agent or human resources department.
