See doc, get a buddy: When starting a weight loss plan, a person should see his doctor to be sure the plan is nutritionally good, and won't cause problems such as high cholesterol, low iron, or calcium & vitamin d deficiencies. A weight loss buddy can help, because two people on a weight loss plan can watch out for each other, and give encouragement when needed.

Start with MD: Check for underlying medical/health issues. Registered dietician can be helpful (insurance covers if for diabetes, some other health issues). Avoid fad diets. Lots of available ones that can work; all require ongoing physical activity (i didn't say exercise) to be successful. Weight watchers, dash diet. Org, zone etc all have something to offer. Remember: diet, from the greek: way of life.
