What is the dye commonly used for a liver scan?

Depends on scan?: There are multiple types of liver imaging available. Ultrasounds don't use any dye. Cat scans use iodinated dyes. Mri scans use gadolinium based dye.

Iodine based: Non ionic or ionic - both dyes can be related to kidney failure so testing your kidney function is usually recommended if you are elderly. Some people have reduced kidney function and do not know it.
