Portal vein: Portal vein thrombosis is clotting in hepatic portal vein, which can lead to portal hypertension and reduction in the blood supply to the liver. Complications include splenomegaly, esophageal and gastric varices (which can bleed), portal hypertensive gastropathy and ascites. treatments include anticoagulants, shunts, bypass surgery, and transplants.
