A : A good mouth piece (mouth guard?) needs to fit securely around each and every tooth. That type of fit would not allow tooth movement so it can't be used with braces. Your orthodontist can fit you with a mouthgaurd that is designed to be used with braces. It won't protect your teeth as well as the standard type. The good news is that the archwire that connects all your braces together adds a great deal of protection to your teeth.

You : You need to work with your orthodontist in getting the right mouth guard that fits around your appliances and can easily placed and removed without damaging the brackets. Over the counter sports mouth guards will not be wise as they are not custom fitted to your situation.

Mouth Guard: Always speak to your orthodontic specialist regarding proper mouth guards with braces. Shock Doctor branded mouthguards make them specifically for orthodontic patients. Many orthodontists (myself) have specific mouthguards for braces in the office for purchase.
