Because : Because of the location of your shingles outbreak, you need to be evaluated and followed closely to prevent loss of eyesight and/or hearing. You will always be at risk for another outbreak because the virus that causes shingles lays dormant in the nervous system and can reactive at any time. You may be placed on antiviral drugs at the first sign of an outbreak, sometimes called the prodromal stage.
