Found engorged tick on 6 year old head saturday-doc perscribed 1 dose of 100mg doxycycline- tues swollen occiptal lymph nodes but otherwise fine-went to doc & said to wait for tick test to see if bacteria - then 3 weeks more to test son - is this ok?

Yes. You follow the advice of your PCP. Your enlarged lymph nodes are an indication that they are responding to infection.
