My : My opinion --- results of liposuction - depend upon the technician (surgeon) and the technique and not the machine. In other words, it is not the machine that gives the result.

VASER : Vaser liposuction is a heavily marketed form of energized liposuction using ultrasound vaser has successfully marketed an old technique of liposuction as though it were something new, different and better. While i applaud their marketing ability, vaser may not always be the best choice and is more commonly used as a way to lure patients to a particular provider. The company sells its product as a precision method of liposuction which reduces bruising, swelling and downtime for the patient. While I have not seen proof of this in any peer reviewed journals the company has pored millions into marketing their technique to the public as a better technique. Ultrasound assisted liposuction has been around for many years. With some modifications in the instrumentation and energy levels it has been repackaged by vaser and sold as a breakthrough technique. Finally the claims that vaser helps with tightening of the skin appear exaggerated. All energized forms of liposuction (laser assisted, ultrasound assisted) and now safe liposuction which leaves behind a layer of fat grafts appear to tighten the skin about the same amount. In summary vaser is not necessarily the best choice for you. Make sure you are seeing a board certified plastic surgeon who should explain the different forms of liposuction. If vaser it the only type of liposuction they offer "because it is the best" this is also a red flag.

The : The other responders have it correct: do not choose based on the technology which is advertised or used, but on the doctor, the doctors reputation and before and after photos. I am not aware of any carefully done, unbiased studies which show any of the latest heavily marketed types of liposuction or lipolysis offer any better results than traditional tumescent liposuction done carefully by a qualified plastic surgeon.

I : I completely agree with the previous surgeon's comments--it's not the machine that makes for a good result, it's the technician. You should spend your research efforts in deciding on a surgeon, not on what machine they use to accomplish their results. New technology comes and goes, but good training and experience is irreplaceable. Have faith in the doctor that you chose to do your procedure and do not get fixated on specific technologies. Good luck!
