I : I have battled with thyroid disease and weight gain all my life so i hear you. I also had two children and had a difficult time getting back in shape with work, house and kids. Diets do help but life style changes are best. Make sure your thyroid medicine, estrogen and other hormones are balanced. An endocrinologist would be a great specialist to see first. Then mentally you need to take time for yourself and excercise and see a nutritionist. Set a goal and be committed. Eat smaller portions and learn to say no to wine, sugar and breads. You could also seek advise at your local metabolic center. Keep trying and feel good in your body whatever your results and efforts should give you. Good luck.

Losing : Losing weight can be a frustrating process, and you're certainly not alone in this respect. A number of factors influence a person's tendency to lose weight (or not), including thyroid function, Insulin resistance, gender, genetics, activity level and -- of course -- caloric intake. In many cases, weight loss stalls when people develop a set routine that allows their bodies to settle into a particular metabolic plane. I've had many patients over the years who'd camped out on a weight plateau despite maintaining their rigid 1000-calorie menu and their daily trip to the gym. When we varied the the types of foods in their diet and altered their exercise routine a little (usually by adding resistance exercise [weight training] to their aerobic program), their weight loss often recommenced. As you know, weight loss requires discipline and commitment. It's worth sitting down with a nutritionist and/or fitness trainer to devise a program that involves food diaries, carb counting, cross-training, and whatever other techniques can be brought to bear to make your successful. I've attached a link to the national weight control registry, which offers invaluable advice for people who are dedicated to losing weight...And maintaining that loss. My best to you. http://www.nwcr.ws/ http://xnet.Kp.Org/permanentejournal/sum03/registry.Html.
