There : There is really no magic number when it comes to the perfect number of hours of sleep, however anywhere between 7-9 hours is recommended. Look at how well you function on 7 hours of sleep. Ask your self if you still feel tired, have low energy or are requiring lots of coffee just to make it throught the day. You may need that extra hour. It is a good habit to establish patterns of sleep, go to sleep at regular time each night (even on evenings), do not drink caffeine within 4-6 hours of bed time, use your bed only for sleep and relaxation, and get regular exercise.

Varies: Different people need different number of hours of sleep with an average need of about 8 hours. The quality of sleep is important and i believe when sleep happens is also important. If you are waking up not feeling refreshed then either you are not getting enough or the quality of your sleep is not good. There are several sleep apps that can track the quality of your sleep and give you info.
