The primary cancer: Is the place where the mets started from. The mets are secondary cancer.... Bone mets usually come from lung and colon and breast cancer.

What is the prognosis for cancer metastasis into the bones?

Depends: Highly variable. Thyroid cancer with bone mets behaves very differently than lung cancer spread to the bones. Generally considered incurable, but usually can be treated to minimize symptoms, and hopefully slow progression. Best to review treatment strategy with oncologist.
