Depends: Unless you are pregnant, we usually use Methimazole before ptu (propylthiouracil) because of the occasional liver problems with ptu (propylthiouracil). The dose has to be individual depending on the severity of the hyperthyroidism and the breakdown rate in your body. Some people have a very rapid breakdown and require very high doses to be controlled. If so, you need very close monitoring to use the lowest effective dose.
