It is pesky: Often a stiff neck results from sleeping awkwardly, particularly in a cold or drafty room. It is good news that the pain improved and not surprising that it returned. Continue to sleep in comfortable position, use moist heat and then do gentle range of motion stretching 2-3 times daily. You can take ibuprofen. Avoid further injury. It will be gone, I predict, in another week. Best wishes:)
