A member asked:

Is d&c done under anaesthetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes.: A d&c, stands for dilation and curretage. It is a procedure usually done to complete a miscarriage or diagnose/treat heavy menstrual bleeding. It should be done under some form of anesthesia. Common forms of anesthesia for this procedure are: local anesthetic (lidocaine) injected around the cervix, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. In my practice, i usually use IV sedation.
