General: Appendectomy is typically done under general anesthetic. In rare or in emergency situations, local anesthetic technique can be used with an experienced surgeon but the patient would likely feel a lot of pressure discomfort during the operation as well as referred pain.

General anesthesia: Appendectomy is generally done under general anesthesia. While I have done them under local anesthesia, it is not in the best interest of the patient and surgeon to do so.
