A member asked:

While in hospital a month ago my mom received several steroid shots. now it's a fungal mengitis outbreak. does this devolp quickly how do u know if u have it or at risk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Check with hospital: The fungal infections emanated from a contaminated batch of a specially compounded steroid/analgesic preparation. Your hospital will know whether or not they purchased and used this particular compound. If your mom is not ill now, it is very unlikely that she will become so. But never hurts to check.
