A member asked:

Could a person exposed to meningitis during heart surgery, who got very ill and had a 2 month stay in the hospital, have had undiagnosed meningitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: There is only one form of meningitis that is communicable and that one is almost always fatal. Meningitis is relatively easy to diagnose so if someone were in a hospital for 2 months, the diagnosis would very likely be made and treatment given.
