Dr. Simon Rosenberg answered

Specializes in Prosthodontics

Apples & Oranges: Dds & dmd are equal degrees given by different dental schools. Oral surgeons are specialists with 4 years of added training. Prosthodontists have 3 years of training beyond dental school and focus on crowns, bridges, dentures & implants. Your implants should start with the restorative dentist to plan the position & occlusion of the final restoration. They will suggest whom to place implants.

Specializes in Dentistry

DDS, DMD, Oral Surg.: Usually the dds or dmd depends on where you went to dental school. Many schools give out a dds and some schools give out a dmd degree. Which is best for crowns and implants depends on their post graduate training. Usually oral surgeons do not place crowns. Many times there is a team approach with general dentist and the oral s. Working together. Sometimes the dds/dmd place implants. Ask questions.
