One letter: Different schools grant different degrees upon their graduates. The dds and dmd degrees are identical and recognized as such by all state licensing boards.

DDS=DMD: They both mean the same thing. Some dental schools grant a D.D.S. (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree while others prefer the D.M.D. (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree instead. The training the dentists receive is the same but the name of the degree is different.

None: There is no difference, except that the dentist went to a different dental school. They have the same basic education.

None: Different schools established the degree way back in their history. Dds stands for doctor of dental sugery and dmd stands for doctor of dental medicine. At one time, the dds degree meant that the dentist was more practice oriented and the dmd was more academic and research oriented. Now, the degrees are the same.
