Not a good idea: There are significant risks associated with growth hormone. Use is typically restricted to severely height challenged individuals. 5'6" at age 16 is not abnormally short. Your growth phase may not yet be over. I would encourage a solid nutrition and exercise program with perhaps vitamin supplementation to ensure continued growth. Much safer alternative than growth hormone.

Depends: If you have a condition of true growth hormone deficiency they could. This could be documented by testing & given under the supervision of a pediatric endocrinologist. If you are just genetically short, or delayed, hormones would only push you to the height you would reach eventually. At more than 10K/yr the out of pocket cost is worth considering.It would never be covered if you are not deficient
