Risk, Deterioration: One general criteria that would lead to consideration of hospitalization has to do with a sudden and increasing risk of harm to self or others. The other main consideration has to do with deterioration of functioning to the point that a person can no longer function in accomplishing daily activities.

Admission: Usually they are 1. Imminent danger to self 2. Imminent danger to others 3. Unable to function or take care of self gravely disabled sometimes people may have long term passive thoughts of hoplessness and not iiving but may not have the active ideation, intent or plan which may not qualify for acute psych admission.
