Pessimism : And optimism are traits that vary naturally among people, but people can learn to be more optimistic. Feeling melancholic (sad, hopeless, depressed) is not a natural or healthy state, and a mental health professional could help resolve it. Books such as "the how of happiness" by sonja lyubomirsky, "authentic happiness" by martin seligman and "feeling good" by david burns may be helpful.
