Splinting: If you have pain at the base of your thumb and are under 40 you probably have basilar, base of the thumb, instability. If you are a women over 50 you are probably one of the 25% women with basilar joint arthritis. Early treatment with splints and injections help. Joint replacement is performed when you cannot tolerate the pain.
