Go to Orthopedic: There could be a missed fracture of the navicular bone ( or wrist bone) that required immobilization covering the thumb. He might developed already a remodeling of the affected bone. Consult with an orthopode asap.

Not enough info: This could be anything from a sprained wrist to a poorly healed fracture or a ganglion cyst. I would see a hand surgeon to have it evaluated.
