Trauma that lead to: pain. Must be considered. Thumb ligament injury at the MCP joint, wrist fracture, in the radius or scaphoid are possible, as are other bone or ligament injury. tendon pain giving pain with thumb extension near the wrist can be a sign of contusion or tendonitis. An evaluation that includes xrays is typically a good step to take for the symptoms and history described here
