With this scenario- no. The pen would have to have blood on it which would then have to have entered an open cut on your thumb for that to happen. You can also ask for a thoughtful true answer from the coworker of her/his status re HIV, explaining your fear.

HIV cannot be transmitted through above mentioned mechanism. Would suggest use of gloves if having superficial wounds. Health (HIV) related anxiety appears likely and you should mention your worries to your primary care doc.
