Viral: About 85% of sore throats are viral. They can be just as dramatic as their bacterial counterparts. If you're having trouble swallowing, see your doctor.

Viral infection: If the cause of your symptoms is a bacterial infection, you should begin seeing resolution of your symptoms on that antibiotic. It may be that your infection is viral and, if so, the antibiotics will not be effective and will take about a week or so to resolve. If there is no improvement, or worsening, in the next 2 to 3 days i would see your physician again.
