Exception: If the diabetes is maturity onset diabetes of youth (mody) as far as both parents go, then if the child is born with 1 gene from each parent who has this, congenital diabetes develops. Mody is autosomal dominant, so two autosomal dominant genes for mody would cause congenital diabetes. We have babies with this in our practice.
