See your doctor: I think you know what the answer to this is. You need to be checked out by your doctor. The best way to diagnose diabetes is to have venous blood drawn rather than from a fingerstick. If you have a family history or other risk factors then go see your doctor. They will order labs to confirm or deny the diagnosis. It shld incl Hg A1c, insulin, fasting gluose maybe even gluc tolerance test if needed

Could be genetic: Hi. It could be plain old type 1 or type 2 diabetes coming on. It could also be a monogenic diabetes in a category called "maturity onset diabetes of youth" or MODY. MODY is due to a genetic mutation in one of several possible genes, and tends to be mild and stable (compared to the onset of type 1 diabetes in a similar teen). If teen's parent is a mild "type 2", MODY is likely.
