Is there a difference between a physical exam and wellness check?

7 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

NO: These are one and the same. It is reserved for the yearly visit to check wellness or lack of it and not for your laundry list of things. You shold have individual appointments for illness and medical problems. The yearly wellness or physical is to promote wellness and good health and preventative issues. It is worth the while and proper and necessary. Keep the vist to wellness issues.

Often the same: Technically, a physical exam refers to the provider doing an exam of any kind; anything from listening to the heart to doing a full body exam. However, many people use the term to mean a full health maintenance visit, also called a "check up, " or a "physical.".
